Five of Our Best Resources To Rethink High School

By 2:00pm PST December 13, 2020

Wow, what a year! It’s safe to say there’s been plenty of rethinking in the last 12 months. To wrap things up, we’re sharing our five most-clicked resources of 2020. We’re so excited to see our readers’ eagerness and interest in rethinking high school!

This is our last Give Me Five issue of 2020 (sad). But we’ll be back with a new suite of tools, resources, and materials in 2021 (exciting)!  Don’t forget to check out the reimagined and revamped XQSuperSchool.org site! Plus, we launched a new digital content site and online community called Rethink Together, full of articles, videos, a discussion forum, challenges, and more!

But first, please rest. You have moved mountains this year. We hope you each have time to catch your breath, sit in the wonder of what you have accomplished so far this school year, and know that people like us are here to support you!

1. INNOVATE Using School Reopening Plans To Reinvent High School

This is our chance to rethink and redesign the high school experience.

Why it matters: Here at XQ, we’re dedicated to ensuring all students have meaningful learning experiences to succeed in high school and beyond graduation. The COVID-19 pandemic gives us a unique opportunity to reimagine current educational practices and create innovation in our schools.

We have plenty of resources, conversations, and content to help you on your journey to rethink high school! Check out this resource for:

  • Guidance for reopening plans
  • Assets for reopening and remote learning
  • Resources for equity
  • Students voices on equity

2. TRANSFORM Resources for Reopening More Equitable Schools

We compiled resources to help educators reopen schools with equity at the center.

Why it matters: 2020 has made it clear that we must reinvent education. We want to ensure that every student has a quality education and the tools and support they need to thrive.

Here, you’ll find resources for:

  • Equity and inclusivity
  • Optimal teaching and learning
  • Family engagement in education
  • Trauma-informed practices & social-emotional learning

And more!

3. LEARN Resources for Remote Learning During COVID-19

We created a hub to help teachers tackle the challenges of remote learning.

Why it matters: The COVID-19 pandemic has thrown all of us a curveball. Here at XQ, rethinking high school to serve all students, no matter the circumstances, is in our DNA.

So, we compiled dozens of resources for educators, school leaders, families, and students for:

  • Supporting students during COVID-19
  • Maintaining educational equity
  • Serving students with disabilities
  • Building community
  • Collaborating in a remote classroom

Plus, much more!

4. CHANGE Reinventing Our Schools With Equity in Mind

Instead of “getting back to normal,” we should see schools reopening as an opportunity for a “do-over.”

Why it matters: If we continue focusing on “getting back to normal,” marginalized students will still be marginalized. When it comes to justice, equity, and supporting all students, we need a “do-over” in our education system. It is the change our students need and deserve.

Our schools could be the creators of:

  • True equity
  • True justice
  • True family and student engagement

How can we achieve this transformation?

  • Ensure the federal education funding is sufficient.
  • Fight to prevent COVID-induced budget woes from cutting education budgets.

5. SUPPORT The Resilient Educator Toolkit for COVID-19

As the traumas and challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic continue, teachers must stay strong and resilient.

Why it matters: The pandemic hasn’t been easy for anyone. Now more than ever, your students need you. To best support your students, you need to support and nurture yourself. These resources will help you do just that.

This toolkit has resources to help you, your students, and their families:

  • Stay calm
  • Be informed
  • Take care of “self”
